Why was my card declined on Steam?

Steam declines usually come from your bank blocking an international online charge, or from a mismatch between your card's country and your Steam account's region. Steam enforces regional pricing, so a card issued in a country other than your account's can be refused on principle rather than for lack of funds.

Region enforcement, not just card rules

Steam prices games differently by country, which gives Valve a strong reason to check that your payment method matches your account's region. A card from a different country than your Steam account can be refused specifically because of that mismatch, even when it would work anywhere else.

Your Steam wallet also has a fixed currency, set by the country your account was created in. This is the detail that catches people out with gift cards: a USD wallet code credits a USD wallet, and Steam may simply reject it on an account set to another currency.

Prepaid and virtual cards are also commonly refused by Valve's checkout, and repeated failed attempts can trigger a temporary payment hold on the account.

Try these first — they cost nothing

Genuinely, do this before buying anything from us. If your bank can enable the payment, that is cheaper than any reseller including this one. We would rather lose the sale than take money you did not need to spend.

Check your Steam account currency in Account Details before doing anything else. It determines which wallet codes can ever work.
Enable international online payments with your bank.
Stop retrying after two failures — repeated attempts can put a temporary payment restriction on the account.
Check whether Steam offers a local payment method in your country; where it exists, it is usually cheaper and simpler than anything else.

Wallet codes must match your wallet currency

This is the thing to verify before ordering. Steam → Account Details shows your currency. If it is not USD, a USD wallet code is likely to be rejected, and that is Valve's rule rather than a fault in the code.
