Why won't my Amazon card work on another Amazon site?

Each Amazon storefront is effectively a separate shop with its own balance. An amazon.com claim code redeems on amazon.com and nowhere else — not amazon.de, not amazon.co.uk, not amazon.ae — and there is no mechanism to move balance between them.

This is the single largest source of refund requests in this category, which is why we state the region in the product title, again in the price box, and require an explicit acknowledgement before you pay. It is not a formality; it is the mistake we are trying to stop you making.

Buy the card for the site you actually shop on, not the country you live in. Those are frequently different.

How do Apple and Google Play account countries work?

Both tie your balance to a country set on your account or payments profile, and both make changing it awkward on purpose. Apple requires you to spend any remaining balance to zero, cancel subscriptions, and add a payment method valid in the new country. Google generally wants a payment method issued in the new country too.

The consequence is worth stating plainly: buying the wrong region's card here is worse than a wasted purchase, because stranded credit can also block the country change you would need to fix it.

Check the setting before ordering. On Play it is under Payments & subscriptions → Payment methods → More payment settings; on Apple it is under Media & Purchases in your account settings.

Why did my card get declined on Amazon specifically?

More often than people expect, it is address verification rather than the card. Amazon checks the billing address you typed against the address your issuer holds, and a missing apartment number or an old postcode produces a decline that feels inexplicable because the money is fine.

Re-entering the billing address exactly as your bank has it is free, takes a minute, and fixes a meaningful share of these. Try that before buying anything from us.

What can you actually spend the balance on?

Amazon balance covers most purchases on the matching storefront, and in many cases Prime — but Amazon decides that, not us, and it varies. If you are buying a card specifically to pay for one thing, verify at their checkout first.

Apple balance is used ahead of your other payment methods for most Apple subscriptions including iCloud+, which is what makes it a genuine workaround for a card that will not clear. Google Play balance covers apps, games and subscriptions billed through Play — but not subscriptions a developer bills you for directly on their own site.
