Why was my card declined on Netflix?

Netflix bills you in the country your account is registered to, and a card from elsewhere frequently fails against it. The other common cause is your bank refusing recurring international charges. Where you are sitting is irrelevant — what matters is the account's billing country.

Billing country, not your location

A Netflix account has a billing country attached to it, set when the account was created and tied to the payment method. This is the fact almost every gift-card problem here comes back to: it is not about where you live or where you are watching from, it is about how the account is billed.

Recurring charges are also treated differently from one-off purchases by many issuers. A card that buys something once can still be blocked from a monthly foreign subscription, which is why Netflix can fail while other purchases succeed.

Netflix supports local payment methods in many countries. Where one exists it is almost always the better route, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a code.

Try these first — they cost nothing

Genuinely, do this before buying anything from us. If your bank can enable the payment, that is cheaper than any reseller including this one. We would rather lose the sale than take money you did not need to spend.

Check which country your Netflix account is billed in before assuming anything about the card.
Look for a local payment method in Netflix's own payment options — mobile billing and local cards are supported in many markets and cost you nothing extra.
Enable international online payments with your bank if you intend to keep using a foreign card.
Update the card details rather than retrying the same failed charge; stale stored cards fail repeatedly.

A US gift code only works on a US-billed account

This is the single most common reason a Netflix gift code is rejected, and it is why we require an explicit acknowledgement at checkout. If your account is billed in Morocco, Algeria or anywhere other than the United States, a US code will not apply. Check before you pay, not after.

Credit is drawn down monthly

Gift credit sits on the account and is consumed against your plan price each month, rather than buying a fixed number of months. A larger card simply lasts longer.

What works when the card cannot be fixed

If none of the free fixes apply, the working route is to stop paying with a card at all: buy a gift code or prepaid voucher with crypto, and redeem it on your own account.

No. The card only applies to accounts billed in the United States in dollars. This is Netflix's rule and it cannot be worked around.

Will a VPN make a US gift card work?

No. The check is on the account's billing country, not your IP. A VPN also conflicts with their terms.

Does Netflix gift credit expire?

US gift credit does not carry an expiry date, but Netflix's terms govern that rather than ours.
